After I have split the Dynacast fibreglass splints in Ziplock bags and let them rest for a few weeks, they are now rock solid. It seems like the seconds it took to cut it and put them on a Ziploc were enough to dry them. Thus, I would never bring them on an expedition : they are useless after a few days.
Still, the original box containing all the remainder fibreglass is soft as a chewy chocolate chip cookie and ready to be use. If I have enough space for the box on an expedition, I would bring it. It would be bothersome but useful if you expect to see many patients with fractures or sprains on an expedition. Otherwise, they don’t seem expedition-fit.
The perfect qualities for a splint would be something cheap, lightweight and reusable.
Happy Holidays all!
